Title of the Course: “Mathematical Techniques and Quantitative Analysis”

Credits:? 4

Instructor:? Dr. K. Furuuchi, Associate Professor, Theory Group

About the Course:

The most fundamental properties of Nature are revealed through meticulous observation well described in the language of mathematics. A deeper understanding and interpretation of natural?processes is achieved through the development of mathematical techniques as well as the application?of appropriate quantitative methods. This course is intended for first and second-year Ph.D. students addressing the most fundamental questions in physics from the perspective of a theorist.?Exceptionally gifted graduate and postgraduate students in related areas of science and engineering?with a strong foundation in mathematics may also apply. Students will have the opportunity to benefit?from guest lectures and seminars by subject specialists throughout the duration of the course. Audit and?‘Pass/Fail’ options are available for eligible candidates.

Eligibility:

Ph.D. students / those pursuing / recently completed a master’s degree in physics or any branch of science/engineering. Knowledge of mathematics at the advanced master’s level is a prerequisite.
