Dr. Harini Santhanam presented her research on wicked problems in the marine and coastal sector, virtually at the 沙巴体育 Workshop on Public Policy IWPP4? Guadalajara. Substantial field-based research from the past years on Pulicat lagoon ecosystem, she provided a new perspective to studying the less explored world of wicked problems of the marine and coastal ecosystems. These insights were useful to construct novel policy engagement models using three evidence windows:
1. salinity management
2. coastal regulation zones?
3. achieving the goals of SDG 14.
The study highlighted the way forward for policy coherence, and the use of appropriate technological advancements for engaging with wicked problems across multiple sectors at grassroots, through a scientific perspective. Such research are helpful to policymakers for advancing the good governance initiatives and using best interventions aligned with national goals. Dr. Pranab J Patar, Senior environmental scientist, collaborated with Dr. Harini on bringing about new methodologies to study social impacts.
