About the Department
The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology started its DM Course in 2012, and from its inception is aimed at comprehensive training in clinical problem solving, logical decision making, acquiring a broad knowledge base and gaining skills in basic as well and endoscopy. The division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Kasturba Hospital 沙巴体育 is a highly specialized unit with advanced therapeutic endoscopy facility a state-of-the-art in-patient unit, and highly skilled gastroenterologists. The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has been in existence for more than 30 years.
?It offers high end research in clinical care in pancreatic diseases and inflammatory bowel disorders.
Ours is the only tertiary care hospital in this region providing a vast exposure to our fellows in management of GI emergencies, critical care as well as in sub-specialty clinics like IBD, Liver, Pancreas or Motility.?

Dr. Guruprasad Padur Aithal:? Is a Professor of Hepatology and the head of the division for the Nottingham Digestive Disease center He is the Deputy Project Coordinator and work package lead of the 'Translational Safety Biomarker Pipeline (TransBioLine)' programme of the Innovation Medicines Initiative (IMI) of the European Union and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries & Associations (EFPIA) (2019-24)
He is also the Hepatology lead for the National Institute for Health 沙巴体育 (NIHR) Health Technology Assessment programme: 'Anti-TB drug hepatotoxicity and treatment reintroduction' (2020-26).

Dr. Rajvinder Singh is a Professor of Medicine with the University of Adelaide and the Director of Gastroenterology at the Lyell McEwin & Modbury Hospitals, 沙巴体育 Australia.
Dr. Mohan Ramchandani
He has a passion for teaching postgraduates and interested in research, he has many publications in national and international journals. He has authored many chapters in gastroenterology textbooks. He is on the editorial board of video GIE and a peer reviewer in many GI endoscopy journals. He is active in GI endoscopy societies and presently is governing council member of the society of GI endoscopy of India and a member of the American Society of GI endoscopy. Achievements
Motility?at dept of gastroenterology conducts a variety of diagnostic tests to evaluate and diagnose abnormal conditions within the gastrointestinal system. Services provided include:
·???????? Manometry studies?to evaluate motor function and coordination of muscular?activity throughout the digestive system.
·???????? 24-hour pH reflux monitoring,
·???????? esophageal impedance-pH monitoring?for?evaluation of acidic and non-acidic reflux.
·???????? Evaluation for constipation
·???????? Evaluation for difficulty in swallowing
·???????? Anorectal manometry and rectal biofeedback?for diagnosis and treatment of anorectal dysfunction.
Advancements in the field of Gastroenterology especially related to the field of third space endoscopy lead to endoscopic cure of Achalasia with a procedure called POEM i.e, Peroral endoscopic myotomy.? POEM is akin to surgical myotomy offering a onetime cure for the disease. Procedure lasts 30-45 minutes, is incision less and offers instantaneous relief from symptoms. Resumption of oral diet can be done within one day and patient discharged the following day and no medications.
During the Endoscopic workshop held in the department of Medical Gastroenterology on 27th Feb 2021, POEM procedure was performed under the guidance of Dr. Mohan Ramchandani, Consultant Gastroenterologist from AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad. POEM was performed in this part of Karnataka for the first time. SpyGlass cholangioscopy was also performed during the workshop in several patients with complex hepatobiliary diseases including bile duct cancer for stenting, bile duct stone for crushing of stones and biliary strictures.
