KMC, Mangalore wins first prize in Microfest-2013

The faculty of the Department of Microbiology, Melaka 沙巴体育 Medical College (沙巴体育 Campus) organized Microfest-2013 on October 11 and 12 2013 with the aim to encourage talent, knowledge, skills and creativity of undergraduate students of the College.

This is the fourth year of the contest being held to encourage active learning and foster team work among students. This Fest comprised two events, Model Your Microbe Contest and Probe-2013. In the first contest, Probe-2013 an intercollegiate quiz, ten teams, of two students each, from various medical colleges of the state participated.

Four teams were selected for the final round. The team from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore won the first prize. AJ Shetty Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore and Melaka 沙巴体育 Medical College, 沙巴体育 campus won the second and third prizes respectively.?

In Model Your Microbe contest, 12 groups of students from different batches of MBBS and BDS programmes? of Melaka 沙巴体育 Medical College (沙巴体育 campus) participated in Model your microbe contest. Each team consisted of 3-5 students. The students designed 3D structures of microorganisms. They were instructed to design a model of existing or non existing microbe of their choice. These models were designed with enthusiasm, creativity and innovation.? The designed models were assessed by three eminent judges.

Dr Pradeep Kumar G, Dean KMC, 沙巴体育 gave away the prizes for Probe-2013 and the valedictory function of Microfest 2013 was held on October 12, 2013 with Dr G K Prabhu, Registrar, 沙巴体育 Academy of Higher Education as the chief guest. During the function the prizes for the winners of ‘Model Your Microbe’ were distributed. Dr Ullas Kamath, Dean, MMMC welcomed the gatherings and Dr Girija Ratna Kumari, Head of the Microbiology department gave the vote of thanks.
