Guest Lecture on Pharmacopoeia Standards of Biotechnology-Derived Therapeutics

During the Diamond Jubilee year celebrations of MCOPS, the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology organized a Guest lecture on ‘Pharmacopoeia Standards of Biotechnology-Derived Therapeutics’ on 17 August 2023, in PGR hall at 2.30 PM. Dr Kalaivani M, Senior Scientific Officer and Officer-in-charge, Biologics Division, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India was the speaker. Dr ?Kalaivani commenced her talk by explaining the basics of Pharmacopeia standard requirements after which she explained the process of development of monographs, how the process differs in the case of biological products from small molecules, various approval processes involved, and recent changes in the testing procedures for determining efficacy and toxicity standards.

Several faculty members, research scholars, and MPharm students from different departments at MCOPS participated in and enjoyed the lecture. The session ended with a detailed question and answer segment, which was followed by Dr C Mallikarjuna Rao, Principal of MCOPS, sharing some valuable insights. Dr Kalaivani was honored by Dr C Mallikarjuna Rao, the principal, Dr Krishnamurthy Bhat, the vice principal, Dr Gautham Shenoy, professor of pharmaceutical chemistry, and Dr Raghu Chandrashekar, the professor and head of the host department. Dr. Angel Treasa Alex, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, led the program and concluded it with vote of thanks.
