The Dental Education Unit of MCODS Mangalore conducted a Faculty Development Program titled “Demystifying Assessment and Course Outcome Mapping for OBE”. This initiative was aimed at enhancing faculty competencies in implementing Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and conducting fair and effective assessments in dental education.

Dr. Nanditha Sujir, a distinguished faculty member and FAIMER Fellow, served as the resource person. Her extensive experience in dental education and her role as a FAIMER Faculty made her an ideal choice to lead this session.

Over 30 faculty members participated in the session, which covered the following key areas:

Question Paper Setting: Techniques for aligning questions with learning outcomes and ensuring validity and reliability.
MCQ Design: Best practices for constructing high-quality multiple-choice questions that assess various cognitive levels.
Clinical Posting Assessment: Strategies for evaluating students during clinical rotations, with emphasis on fairness and consistency.
Blueprinting: Introduction to blueprinting as a tool for mapping assessments to course outcomes and ensuring balanced coverage.
Assessment Variations: Discussion on the differences in assessment approaches between pre-clinical and clinical exercises, and how to tailor methods accordingly.
Impact and Feedback
The session was highly interactive and well-received by the participants. Faculty members appreciated the practical insights and tools provided to enhance their assessment practices. The program contributed significantly to strengthening the implementation of OBE at MCODS Mangalore
