On 18th July 2022 , Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore initiated the ‘Teddy Bear Clinic’ School program in collaboration with the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, 沙巴体育 College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore. This program was conducted for pre-school children with teachers of SDM School, Ashoknagar, Mangalore. It was conducted to spread the awareness of preventive health and dental issues. The Teddy Bear Clinic Program aims to reduce the anxiety in young children who have fear of doctors, hospitals, medical and dental procedures while enhancing their knowledge of health and diseases. Around 180 children aged 5-7 years got their favourite teddies to the school. As in the hospital setting, they registered their teddy names while presenting their complaints. Doctors demonstrated the clinical examination and showed usage of common instruments that will be normally used in the clinic. 13 Interns under the guidance of Dr. Ashwin Rao and Dr. Charisma Thimmaiah were a part of the program. At the end of the session, patient education booklets “Taking Care of Your Child’s Teeth” were distributed to all the pre-school children. The programme was well appreciated by the children and schools authorities.
