In observance of World No Tobacco Day, Department of Public Health Dentistry, MCODS, Mangalore organized in collaboration with KMC Mangalore, SDM Law college ,IDA Dakshina Kannada And NOHP , Dakshina Kannada

The primary objective of the celebration was to promote oral health and raise awareness about the detrimental effects of tobacco use on oral health. The camp attracted a sizeable number of participants, including students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.

A health talk was organised in the SDM Law College and Contract Resources Petrochem Services India Pvt Ltd, Mangalore, Baikambady on ill effects of tobacco use . the speakers educated the ?participants about the oral health consequences of tobacco use, including increased risks of periodontal diseases, oral cancers, and tooth loss. In addition, participants received personalized advice on tobacco cessation strategies, such as nicotine replacement therapy, counselling, and support groups.

The oral check-up camp and oral screening camp served as an opportunity for early detection of oral health issues related to tobacco use. Those identified with potential oral health problems were referred for further treatment and counselling to ensure proper management and support.

Street Play:

On the 30th of May, Department of Public health Dentistry, MCODS, Mangalore organized a compelling street play at the Ayushmathi Urban Health Centre. The street play was specifically designed to captivate the attention of commuters and create awareness about tobacco and its adverse effects. The talented students highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco usage on individuals' health and emphasized the importance of quitting tobacco for a healthier life. Through engaging dialogues, powerful performances, and relatable scenarios, the street play aimed to convey a strong anti-tobacco message to the audience, inspiring them to reconsider their tobacco consumption habits.

Inauguration Ceremony:

The grand inauguration ceremony for World No Tobacco Day was held at Marena Sports Complex on the 31st of May. The event was organised by Department of Public health Dentistry, MCODS, Mangalore and collaborated with IDA (DK) branch and KMC Mangalore The event commenced with great enthusiasm and a commitment to raise awareness about the hazards of tobacco use. Distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and members of the public gathered to mark this significant occasion, the function was presided by Pro VC, Mangalore Campus Dr.Dilip Naik , Dean MCODS MANGALORE Dr Ashita Uppoor and President IDA DK branch Dr.Arvind Bhat and District Nodal Oral Health Program Officer ?Dr.Laveena Noronha.

Quiz on Dentistry and Tobacco Consumption: As part of the event, a captivating quiz on topics related to dentistry and tobacco consumption was conducted by Dr Srikant and Dr Mithun Pai. The quiz aimed to assess the knowledge of participants and reinforce the information shared throughout the World No Tobacco Day celebrations

Street Play Competition:

The street play competition were held to mark the world no tobacco day , with the topic ‘effect of tobacco on health’ teams of dental and medical students across the district participated in the event. The event not only elevated the sprit of participation but added knowledge to the public who turned up to see the event. The students really did justice to the event and came out with innovative methods to put across the subject to the masses.

World no tobacco Talk on Protecting children from tobacco industry interference by Dr Jiten Surendran . A Talk on Protecting children from tobacco industry interference was organised by the Department of Public health Dentistry, MCODS, Mangalore and KMC Mangalore, on the theme of World no tobacco day 2024 , an good number of participants attended the event . Dr Jiten spoke on various implication of tobacco and its effects of health and protecting children from tobacco industry interference. The speaker also Enlighted the participants delving deep into the clinical applications of tobacco cessation and its intricate legal ramifications.
