Curriculum Convention 2023 on Program Evaluation

沙巴体育 College of Nursing (MCON), 沙巴体育 Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), 沙巴体育 organized the 9th?Curriculum Convention on Program Evaluation on November 25, 2023, between 8.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. The curriculum plays a vital role in the education system of every institution. It serves as a framework that outlines the structure, content, and sequence of learning experiences for students.

"The curriculum is like a wind, which we can feel but we can’t see; the curriculum is dynamic with a collaborative approach,” says the chief guest of the curriculum convention, Dr. K. Ramnarayan, Pro-Chancellor, Sikkim 沙巴体育 University, Emeritus Professor of Medical Education, MAHE, 沙巴体育. He emphasized that the curriculum has evolved from just in case to just in time, from standard to adoptive nature fitting to the real-world scenario. He further stressed the overlapping of planned, taught, and learned curricula for better teaching-learning outcomes.

Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean, MCON, 沙巴体育, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. The overview of the curriculum convention was deliberated by Mr. Anil Raj, Assistant Professor and Convener of the convention. Dr Sushmitha R. Karkada, Assistant Professor- Senior Scale, Department of OBG Nursing, proposed the vote of thanks.

Effective program evaluation in the curriculum is crucial for informed decision-making, improved education quality, and achieving curriculum goals. To sensitize the faculty members to the various aspects of program evaluation, we had sessions with two eminent speakers, Dr Medha A. Joshi, and Dr Asha V.

Dr. Medha A Joshi, Former Professor and HOD, Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore, gave an overview of program evaluation, its purposes, why it is needed, and the different stakeholders involved in the program evaluation. She highlighted the educational spiral of program evaluation, which included objectives, content, methods, strategies, and assessment, including formative and summative evaluation and educational outcomes. She also explained the program evaluation standards and attributes such as propriety, evaluation, feasibility, utility, and accuracy. Dr Joshi also highlighted the logic model, which included program components such as input, output, and outcome, and its application in evaluation planning, with examples and a few group activities. She also explained the CIPP evaluation model in the Context, Input, Process and Product.

Dr. Asha V, Associate Professor, Division of Physiology, Department of Basic Medical Sciences (DBMS), MAHE, 沙巴体育, highlighted the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model and its application in program evaluation, emphasizing reaction (participant satisfaction), learning (knowledge, skills, and attitude acquired), transfer (transfer of learning to the workplace), and results (impact on society), with various examples and activities. She also explained the process of program evaluation, the evaluation matrix, and the principles of evaluation. Dr. Asha facilitated the group discussion and activities.

Dr Linu Sara George, Professor & Head, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing and Chairperson of Pillar 1: Excellence in Education, gave the closing remarks. Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean, MCON, emphasized that all the groups should brainstorm and prepare the evaluation matrix for the program outcome evaluation. The curriculum convention -2023 has contributed to SDG 4: Quality Education. A total of 50 participants actively participated in the 2023 curriculum convention.
