Report on Faculty Development Program 2025

The Continuing Nursing Education committee of 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育, organized a two-day Faculty Development Program on July 25 & 26, 2025. Dr. Sushmitha R Karkada, Associate Professor, Dept of OBG Nursing, MCON, 沙巴体育, MAHE, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief overview of the two-day programme outlining its relevance and objectives.
On 25th July 2025, the first session, Power of communication-Unlocking workplace potential, was led by Dr Virupaksha Devaramane, Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi. He emphasized the importance of human touch, nonverbal communication, and genuineness in communication, highlighting their impact on workplace effectiveness.
It was followed by a session on Clinical preceptorship by Dr Blessy Prabha Valsaraj, Associate Professor, Department of Community and Mental Health, College of Nursing, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. Her session emphasized the role of preceptors, the qualities of an effective teacher, setting the stage for learning, and providing feedback in student learning.
The afternoon session was on Artificial Intelligence in 沙巴体育 & Education, which was dealt by Fr Anil Ivan Fernandes, Director, Canara Communication Centre, Mangaluru. He provided practical insights into AI tools and their applications in academic presentations, research processes, and digital education platforms.
On day 2, the first session was on Advanced statistics using Jamovi by Dr. Satyanarayana, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Statistics and Data Science, MAHE, 沙巴体育. He gave hands-on experience about analysis and interpretation on correlation, linear regression, and logistic regression using Jamovi software.
The afternoon session was on Reflective journaling by Dr Tatiyana Mandal, Assistant Professor - Selection Grade, Division of Pharmacology, Basic Medical Sciences, MAHE.?She discussed the importance of reflective thinking, ways of reflecting, reflective writing, theories, and models of reflection.
The last session on Teaching and monitoring in LMS was dealt by Dr Radhika R Pai, Assistant Professor – Sr Scale, Dept. of Fundamentals of Nursing, MCON, MAHE, 沙巴体育. She explained how to use LMS in the classroom, including creating assignments, quizzes, uploading content to the LMS, and evaluation. Dr Judith A Noronha Dean, MCON, gave the concluding remarks and also congratulated the faculty for their successful completion of the 2024-2025 academic year programs and motivated them to start the new academic year with enthusiasm and zeal.
The sessions were aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 3: Quality Education. A total of 69 faculty members participated in the Faculty Development Programme (FDP)2025. Mrs. Prathibha Lydia Braggs, Lecturer, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, compered the two-day programme.
This Faculty Development Programme provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, and professional development among faculty members. MCON continues to strive towards academic excellence and innovation in nursing education through such enriching initiatives.
