Report on “Development of 沙巴体育 Tool” workshop

The Exemplary 沙巴体育 & Innovation Team—Institute of Eminence (IoE) of 沙巴体育 College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, 沙巴体育 organized a one-day workshop on “Development of 沙巴体育 Tools” on July 3, 2024. The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of research tools, from basic concepts to hands-on applications, for UG and PG students. The event featured a series of sessions covering various aspects of research tool development, including fundamental principles and practical applications.

Mrs. Pratibha, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale), Department of OBG Nursing, MCON, MAHE, 沙巴体育, and convenor of the workshop, welcomed the gathering and provided an overview of the workshop. The first session, led by Dr. Judith A Noronha, Professor & Dean, 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育, focused on the “Overview of Data Collection Tools.” She described the various data sources, highlighted the significance of the five W’s in research planning, and discussed the different types and advantages of data collection tools with examples.

The second session was on ‘Questionnaire Conceptualization', which was deliberated by Dr. Sushmitha Ramona Karkada, Assistant Professor (Sr Scale), Dept. of OBG Nursing, 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育. She emphasized in depth the development of a questionnaire and interview schedule.

In the third session dealt by Mr. Renjulal Yashodharan, Assistant Professor (Sr Scale), Dept. of Mental Health Nursing, 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育, on “Item Analysis,” he briefed on stages of tool development and emphasized item analysis.

Dr. Sonia R. B. D’souza, Professor and Head of the Department of OBG Nursing at 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育, led the fourth session. She discussed establishing the validity of various types of tools, providing examples and practical experiences to assist participants in this process.

The fifth session, led by Dr. Baby S Nayak, Professor and Head of the Department of Child Health Nursing at 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育, focused on establishing the reliability of various tools. Dr. Nayak clarified different types of reliability with examples and enhanced the session's clarity by engaging participants in group activities.

Dr Vani Lakshmi R., Assistant Professor-Senior Scale, Coordinator for Quality & Editorial, PSPH, Department of Data Science, MAHE, 沙巴体育, deliberated the last session. She shared her expertise on factor analysis and highlighted the principal methods of factor extraction and factor analysis. She concluded her session saying by adhering to its assumptions and appropriately choosing factor extraction and rotation methods, researchers can effectively use factor analysis to simplify data, construct scales, and enhance the validity of their studies.

A total of 46 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育, attended the workshop. Participants appreciated the systematic organization of the workshop and the resource persons' contributions during the feedback session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Shobha, Lecturer, 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, 沙巴体育. The overall program was chaired by Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Professor & Associate Dean, Team Head – Pillar II Exemplary 沙巴体育 and Innovation, and Chairperson, UG & PG Vertical, MCON, MAHE, 沙巴体育. This program contributed to sustainable development goal 4 quality education.
