沙巴体育 Nurses Week - 2015 (6/5/15-12/5/15) Nursing professionals are the inseparable components of health care team. 沙巴体育 Nurses week is celebrated in memory of Florence Nightingale the forerunner of Nursing, between 6/5/15 & 12/5/15. To strengthen the nursing fraternity and to enhance the community service 沙巴体育 College of Nursing and 沙巴体育 School of Nursing had conducted various activities during 沙巴体育 Nurses week.

Essay competition

Essay competition was conducted for faculty and students of nursing on the theme of 沙巴体育 Nurses’ Week 2015 which was coordinated by Department of Community Health Nursing. There were 44 participants for this competition on 6th May 2015.

Collage Competition

Department of Fundamentals of Nursing conducted a collage competition for nursing students on 7th May 2015 at 2pm. Theme for collagecompetition was Future of Nursing. Nine teams participated. Students showcased their colourful, creative and unique collages on the theme.?

Quiz competition

A quiz competition was held on 8th May 2015 by Department of OBG nursing. From among 55 participants of the preliminary round 15 were selected for final round. Preliminary competition was conducted on 4th May 2015. There were five rounds of questions where first was general knowledge round, second was medical round, third was image round, fourth was current affairs and fifth round was rapid fire round. The whole quiz went on for 45 minutes. All the participants and the audience had a thought provoking time and literally enjoyed the quiz.

Health awareness programme for self help group women


沙巴体育 College of Nursing (MCON) 沙巴体育, conducted a health awareness programme on 7th May, 2015, from 4pm to 6pm, at Narayana Guruswamy Seva Samaj in Kunjibettu, Udupi on the occasion of 沙巴体育 Nurses’ day. Sessions were on the importance of Balanced diet for women and children, Physiological changes and its management in Menopause, Prevention of Communicable and Non communicable diseases. Sixty eight women actively participated in the two hours session. All the sessions were invigorating and interactive where participants cleared their doubts and shared their experiences. Mrs. Ranjani Vasant, secretary of Narayana Guruswamy Seva Samaj supported the programme and appreciated the activities and coverage of topics of the programme. Programme was co-ordinated by Mrs. Yashoda S. Assistant Professor, 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MU, 沙巴体育.

Debate


An enthusiastic and motivating debate was held on 9th May 2015, at 8.30 am to 9. 30 am, in TMA Pai Hall, KMC 沙巴体育, which was coordinated by Department of Psychiatric Nursing as part of 沙巴体育 Nurses’ Week Celebration 2015.
Each team consisted of one faculty and two MSc. Nursing students. Debate highlighted the crux of pros and cons of the challenges and opportunities of nursing service and education, based on the theme, “Nurses, A force for change- care effective, cost effective”. The debate has put a light on new areas of thinking, which was an eye opener for the student nurses and staff who participated in the event as zealous audience.

Seminar

A half day seminar was organized by Medical Surgical Nursing Department, MCON 沙巴体育, 沙巴体育 Academy of Higher Education for the outgoing batches of B.Sc, M.Sc and P.B.B.Sc Nursing students, as part of 沙巴体育 Nurses’ Day celebration on 12.05.2015 from 9 am to 12 noon. There were 150 participants for the seminar. Seminar had two sessions: (i) “Medico – Legal Aspects of Care ” (taken by Dr. Vinod C Nayak, Associate Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine, KMC, 沙巴体育). In his talk he highlighted on expanded role of nurses, Knowledge of legal aspects and areas of potential liability. Medico legal cases with realistic examples were given prime importance in the talk. Students and faculty actively participated in the discussion. (ii) “Facing the interview” (taken by Mr. Nitin Mascreen along with his team from Pathshala Training and Performance Solutions Private Limited, 沙巴体育). He took the audience into a realm of experience through his wonderful expressions and narrations. He emphasized on creating best and lasting impressions during an interview. He concluded the session with five tips for a successful interview: Be well groomed-First impression is the last impression; maintain eye contact and be patient; Use confident posture; Answer with positive phrases and Make a lasting impression”.

“Mass Blood Donation Camp “MCON Blood Drive”


By recognizing the demand of nurses in community service a blood donation camp “MCON Blood Drive” was conducted during the week. Seventy three (Staff and students) volunteered and 52 donated blood.

Nurses’ day Celebration

“Be a force for change, not merely serve as angels of mercy, Be Empowered” was emphasised by Dr.Fathima D’Silva, Principal, NITTE Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, the Chief Guest of the function. During her key note address in the formal programme of 沙巴体育 Nurses’ Day she highlighted the health care system inefficiencies and invisibility of nurses in the health care team. Dr.Fatima proposed various strategies to resolve these issues like integration with other health team members, developing leadership role through nurse navigators and cost analysis during caring process. Mrs. Indira Ballal graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and presented the awards and prizes to the faculty and students for various competitions held as part of Nurses Week. Dr. Anice George, Dean, MCON 沙巴体育 was felicitated during the program for her tireless effort in uplifting the 沙巴体育 College of Nursing and contribution to nursing profession. Formal programme was concluded by Nurses’ Anthem which was composed by Mr. Biju Soman Assistant Professor, MCON 沙巴体育.

By conducting various activities for strengthening the future nurses and meeting societal needs one week program came to a successful conclusion.

Radio Broadcast


A radio broadcast was done on 12th May 2015 on the contributions of nurses to the society. Radio broadcast enlightened its audience about “Nursing as a profession”. The session emphasized on the career opportunities and scope of nursing. Broadcast session highlighted various roles of nurse such as, staff nurses, nurse educators, nurse administrators, school health nurse and occupational nurses. Entry level qualifications for various nursing courses were also discussed during the broad cast session.
