The orientation program for the new batch of BSc and PBBSc Nursing students commenced on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 9:00 am. The event was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, who addressed the students with inspiring words on the responsibilities that come with independence and the vast opportunities for learning, collaboration, and personal growth available at MAHE.?

Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean of 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, MAHE, provided an insightful overview of academic activities, emphasizing the college's milestones and commitment to excellence in nursing education and research. She highlighted the college's achievements in academic excellence through a robust curriculum, innovative teaching methods, and the integration of technology in education. Dr. Noronha underscored the importance of the college's research initiatives, including significant contributions, ongoing projects, and collaborations with international institutions. She proudly noted the college's milestones, such as accreditations, awards, and the accomplishments of notable alumni. Additionally, she detailed the various student support services available, including mentorship programs, academic counseling, and career guidance, designed to help students succeed. Dr. Noronha also emphasized the college's active involvement in community engagement through health programs and outreach activities, demonstrating its dedication to improving community health and well-being.?

Ms. Charmaine Salins, Assistant Nursing Superintendent at Kasturba Hospital, 沙巴体育, provided an overview of the Nursing Service Department activities, outlining the essential services and support provided to nursing students and patients alike.

Dr. Rashmi Yogesh Pai, Deputy Director (Technical) of Student Affairs at MAHE, oriented the students on the vision, mission, and objectives of the student affairs division at MAHE. She highlighted the resources, benefits, and facilities available to students, including counselling services.

  • Healthcare Facilities: Medicare facility, health clinic (Green OPD), and recreational facilities.
  • Gender Champion Program: Empowering educators and recognizing anti-drug day.
  • Grievance Redressal: Mechanisms for addressing student grievances, including the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment.
  • Prohibited Activities: Students were advised against venturing into the sea due to safety concerns.
  • Cybersecurity: Awareness of social media and cybercrime.
  • Zero Tolerance Policy: Strict measures against ragging and substance abuse.
  • Emergency Support: 24-hour ambulance service and student counseling.

Dr. Vrinda Lath, Senior Resident in Emergency Medicine at Kasturba Medical College & Hospital, 沙巴体育, discussed the challenges of wilderness medicine, emphasizing the need for medical practice in remote and resource-limited environments, including high-altitude areas, military settings, adventure sports, and disasters. She highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, and other technical personnel.?

Mr. Ganesh Nayak, Assistant Professor, Department of Instrumentation & Control Engineering, MIT, 沙巴体育, introduced the Centre of Outdoor Studies, which offers sea kayaking, cycling, and experiential learning opportunities. He emphasized the purpose of helping students explore and understand the dangers associated with outdoor activities and leadership development.

Col. Vijay Reddy, Chief Security, MAHE, assured the students of a safe and secure campus environment, emphasizing the availability of physical security and hostel safety 24/7.?Col. Vinod Bhasker, Chief Warden, Health Sciences & MIT Hostels, MAHE, provided an orientation of the hostel facilities and covered the guidelines for hostel living at ZOLO Scholar, emphasizing the judicious use of electricity and maintaining a harmonious living environment.

Dr. Saroja Jaya Kumar, Nurse Manager, Learning and Development, Nursing Strategy and Nursing Quality at 沙巴体育 Health Enterprises Private Ltd. and an alumnus of 沙巴体育 College of Nursing, motivated the new students to take risks, explore new opportunities, and make the most of their time at 沙巴体育. She encouraged them to enjoy their time at MAHE while utilizing the available resources for their academic and personal growth.

Various department heads, faculty members, including PhD scholars, and office staff from the Nursing College introduced themselves to the new batch of students and parents. This session helped the new students familiarize themselves with the faculty and understand the support system available to them.?
