Workshop on Overview of Dementia and its Management – 2025

Department of Psychiatric Nursing at 沙巴体育 College of Nursing (MCON) in collaboration with Dept. of Psychiatry, KMC, 沙巴体育 and Dementia Alliance of India organized a workshop on “Overview of Dementia and its management” on 28.04.2025 at MCON for the healthcare students and faculty, with a broader view to attain the “SDG4: Quality education”.

Dr. Prabha Adhikari, Prof. & HoD, Geriatric Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore, and Dr. C Raghuveer, President, People’s Association for Geriatric Empowerment (PAGE) and former Dean at KMC Mangalore, were the eminent speakers for the sessions. Dr. Prabha emphasized early detection of dementia in the elderly and explained the role of health professionals in the care of persons with dementia. Dr C Raghuveer demonstrated the diagnostic tools used to screen the elderly for dementia in the clinics or community. The workshop was attended by students and faculty from nursing, psychiatry, and allied health (85 beneficiaries).

Dr. Abhiram P N, Assistant Professor, Dept of Psychiatry, KMC, welcomed and introduced the speakers to the audience. Dr Savitha Soman, Professor and HoD, Psychiatry, KMC, and Dr. Binil V, Professor and HoD, Psychiatric Nursing, MCON felicitated the speakers. The vote of thanks was rendered by Mrs. Flavia S Noronha, Assistant Professor, MCON. The workshop ended with an insightful discussion between the multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
